This year, I decided to kick off the New Year with a quick getaway to Philly with my best friend. With just two weeks of planning, we threw together a spontaneous trip filled with history, food, and unforgettable celebrations. Ringing in the New Year in Philadelphia was definitely an unbelievable experience!

Day 1: Exploring Otherworld and the City

As soon as I arrived, we headed to Otherworld, an interactive museum I’d been dying to visit. It didn’t disappoint! The themed rooms were creative and fun-definitely worth a stop if you’re in the city. Afterward, we checked into our hotel and spent the evening strolling through Philadelphia, hopping into different bars for drinks. Puttshack is a must try for putt putt lovers!

Day 2: History and New Year’s Eve Celebration

We started our day with a walk to some of Philly’s most iconic landmarks-the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and Old City. The charming old brick houses in Old City reminded me of Amsterdam, and I couldn’t get enough of the historic vibe.

For lunch, we enjoyed a fantastic Italian meal before heading back to get ready for our New Year’s Eve party at the Crystal Tea Room. This event was a blast-six hours of open bar, dancing, and a silent auction. We danced the night away, and to top it all off, I won a signed Jalen Hurts jersey!

Day 3: New Year’s Day and the Mummer’s Day Parade

New Year’s Day in Philly is all about the Mummer’s Day Parade, and it was unlike any parade I’ve ever seen. The elaborate costumes and performances from the various groups were incredible. Pro tip: Find a spot along the route where they’re performing-it’s the best part!

This is no ordinary parade-it runs from 9 a.m. to 5p.m. and is a full day of excitement. Make sure to pack drinks and snacks, as many bars and restaurants are closed. After soaking in the parade’s energy, we walked to Chinatown for the most delicious dim sum, a perfect end to the day.

Fay 4: Foodie Finds at Reading Terminal Market

On my last day, we visited Reading Terminal Market, a food lover’s paradise. Must try bites? Miller’s Pretzels and a pork roll, egg, and cheese bagel. After indulging in some local favorites, it was time to head to the airport.

This quick trip was the perfect way to ring in the New Year. I’m so grateful to have a friend who’s always up for last-minute adventures. If you’re looking for a unique and lively way to start the year, Philly should be at the top of your list!
