Our Alaskan cruise adventure began in beautiful Vancouver, a city that blends urban sophistication with stunning natural beauty. Here’s how we spent our time exploring this vibrant coastal destination:

Day 1: Exploring the City and Stanley Park

We arrived at our hotel and, after settling in, set out to explore the city. A leisurely walk led us to the waterfront, where we were captivated by the sight of seaplanes gracefully landing and taking off against the backdrop of the mountains.

Our day wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to Stanley Park, a true gem in the bustling city. The park’s lush greenery and waterfront paths were breathtaking, and we were delighted to spot eagles soaring overhead and seals bobbing in the water. While we opted to explore on foot, you can also enjoy carriage rides through the park or visit the Vancouver Aquarium, which is perfect for families or marine life enthusiasts.

Day 2: Granville Island and Adventure on the Water

The next day began with a visit to Granville Island, a haven for foodies. The market buzzed with energy, offering an array of international cuisines at the many food stalls. We couldn’t resist trying the famous donuts at Lee’s Donuts, known to be a favorite of Seth Rogen. The ube donut was an absolute standout-soft, sweet, and worth every bite!

After fueling up, we booked a zodiac boat tour through Get Your Guide, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. With Prince of Whales as our tour operator, and the incredible Captain Jake at the helm, we embarked on a thrilling adventure (wet suits are provided). Captain Jake’s knowledge and enthusiasm brought the tour to life as we cruised passed cargo ships, glaciers, spotted sea lions, harbor seals, and eagles, and marveled at the unique homes perched on remote islands. The perspective from the water was unbeatable, offering panoramic views of Vancouver’s skyline with a glacier in the background on a clear day.

Evening Strolls and Culinary Delights

For our final evening in Vancouver, we took a relaxed stroll along the boardwalk, stopping at a few bars to soak in the city’s lively atmosphere. Vancouver is a culinary treasure trove, and we indulged in fresh seafood and some of the best Asian cuisine we have ever had. There is something to find for everyone!

Why Vancouver is the Perfect Start

Vancouver’s combination of natural beauty, culinary delights, and exciting activities set the tone for an incredible journey ahead. Whether you’re watching seaplanes, sampling local flavors, or embarking on a water adventure, this city is a city worth savoring before your cruise begins.
