Exploring Celebrity Summit while in Alaska is a dream come true. Imagine sailing through the rugged beauty of Alaska, wrapped in luxury and surrounded by breathtaking views–that’s exactly what my journey aboard the Celebrity Summit offered.
Sailing through Alaska on the Celebrity Summit was nothing short of magical for me. From the moment I stepped into the cruise terminal to my final goodbyes in Seward, every detail of the ship, its crew, and the onboard experience exceeded expectations. This wasn’t just a vacation–it was a journey filled with luxury, relaxation, and incredible moments I will never forget.
Embarkation
Embarkation was seamless, thanks to the suite perks that allowed us to bypass long lines and head straight onto the ship. We had the option to enjoy a drink and snack before boarding, but the excitement to explore won out. As suite guests, we had exclusive access to The Retreat–a collection of premium experiences including the Retreat Lounge, Luminae for dining, and a private sundeck.
One of my highlights of embarkation day was the exclusive sail-away party on the ship’s helipad–an area guest don’t typically have access to. Watching Vancouver disappear in the distance from such a unique vantage point was breathtaking. Most guests didn’t linger too long, so we had plenty of time to soak in the moment and snap some amazing photos.
First Impressions
Before heading to our room, we enjoyed our first drink in the Retreat Lounge, where we met some of the crew members who would make our cruise so special. Our suite itself was incredible–spacious with a bedroom, a separate living and dining area, a balcony, and a luxurious bathroom. It was the perfect space to unwind. Our butler, Izzy, was a standout. He anticipated our needs before we even voiced them, and when I casually mentioned loving chocolate-covered strawberries, he made sure a plate was waiting for us every day, along with a bottle of chardonnay for my mom.
The Retreat Deck quickly became one of my favorite spots on the ship. It was quiet, peaceful, and offered stunning ocean views–perfect for reading or simply enjoying the scenery. As we explored the ship, I couldn’t help but notice that I was one of the youngest guests onboard by about 30-40 years. Personally, I loved it. The ship wasn’t crowded with kids running around, and while Celebrity Cruises don’t have massive water slides or go-kart tracks like some other cruise lines, they offer a more refined, relaxed atmosphere.

Dining
Before dinner, we stopped at my favorite onboard bar–the Martini Bar. The bartop is made of ice, and the bartenders put on high-energy performances, flipping bottles and making multi-martini pours with flair. It’s and experience not to be missed!
Dinner at Luminae was outstanding. The host, Oscar, was warm and welcoming, and my parents were thrilled to see a familiar face–Vinod, a server they had met on a previous Celebrity cruise. He remembered them immediately and made sure we were seated in his section all week. His recommendations were spot on, and he always sent me back to the room with a little treat. That first night, I had the prime rib (cooked to perfection), while my mom opted for the fish. Every dish was delicious.
Entertainment
The evening’s entertainment? Silent disco! This was my first time experiencing one, and I’m now convinced it’s the only way I ever want to dance again. My mom watched me dance like no one was watching, laughing the entire time. It was an absolute blast. But the best moment of the night–and possibly the entire trip–came afterward.
We saw the Northern Lights.
Seeing the aurora borealis had been a lifelong dream of mine, and when the colors danced across the sky, I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was pure magic. If the cruises had ended right then and there, I would have left completely satisfied.

Onboard Activities
The next few days were a perfect balance of relaxation and activity. My mornings often started with breakfast on the balcony or at the buffet, where I made sure to grab my cruise staple–hash browns and apple juice. The Retreat Deck became our go-to spot for reading and unwinding, while afternoons were filled with educational seminars (like an incredibly fascinating one on whales), trivia, and evening entertainment.
More Dining
At Luminae, the food continued to impress. Filet mignon was a favorite, as was the phyllo pastry cream dessert. One night we dined at La Petite Chef, a specialty restaurant with an animated, interactive dining experience. While the food was hit-or-miss (the potato soup was outstanding, but the beef wellington was a bit dry), the show itself was delightful and worth experiencing at least once.
Another specialty restaurant we tried was Tuscan Grille. While I can’t remember exactly what I ate, I do remember the limoncello cheesecake–which was absolute perfection. If you’re going to spend extra on specialty dining, this may not be the top pick.
The last specialty dining we tried was Sushi on Five. This is an a la carte menu with a variety of sushi options, as well as dumplings, ramen, edamame, and more. I really enjoyed the dumplings and edamame from here.
While we did not make it to them this time, there are tons of restaurants to choose from. You have the buffet, main dining room, Luminae (Retreat only), Blu (Aqua Class), mast grill, and the spa cafe. There are also specialty dining options like Chef’s Table and Cellar Masters–a sushi and wine dinner.
A fun and unexpected part of the cruise was getting to know the crew members, particularly Emi and Christian from the Retreat Lounge. One night, I was the only guest there, and we spent hours chatting and even learning card tricks. They made my time onboard so memorable, and I truly hope to sail with them again.

Port Days & More Onboard Fun
While my separate blog posts will cover our incredible port days in detail, a few onboard moments stood out.
- Ketchikan: Breakfast a Luminae introduced me to the best caramel-stuffed croissant of my life.
- Juneau: After a long day in town, I stayed up late in the Retreat Lounge with Emi and Christian, enjoying great conversation and making new friends.
- Icy Strait Point: I tried escargot for the first time…and let’s just say, I won’t be ordering it again! But the prime rib that night made up for it.
- Hubbard Glacier Day (Or Lack Thereof): Rough seas meant was couldn’t see the glacier, and unfortunately, I spent most of the day seasick. However, once the waves calmed down, I made it to trivia and even won!
Final Thoughts
Disembarkation in Seward was smooth, but saying goodbye to the ship and its crew was bittersweet. This was, hands down, my favorite cruise experience to date. The Celebrity Summit offered everything I could have wanted–exceptional service, delicious food, a peaceful yet engaging atmosphere, and unforgettable moments like seeing the Northern Lights.
If you’re looking for a quieter, more refined cruise experience without the chaos of water slides and screaming kids, Celebrity Cruises is the way to go. The ship may not have the flashy attractions of some of the larger cruise lines, but it more than makes up for it with impeccable service, thoughtful details, and a fantastic onboard experience.
If you want to hear about how I spent my days in port, check out my other blog posts! I can’t wait for my next Celebrity cruise, and I’m especially curious to see how the experience differs when I sail in the Caribbean this November.
